LuxCreo and the sportswear manufacturer ASICS announced plans to release the second iteration of the ACTIBREEZE HYBRID SANDAL, the new 3D printed performance sandal. The third shoe to emerge from the relationship between the two firms, the performance sandal is made with LuxCreo’s 3D printing technology and is intended for runners to wear during downtime.

After “years of collaboration,” the firms said they were able to create a line of 3D printed performance sandal with possibilities for personalization, including the sandal. The ACTIBREEZE 3D SANDAL and the bespoke 3D printed flip flops debuted in 2021 due to earlier cooperation.

According to LuxCreo, the new 3D printed performance sandal is very lightweight thanks to its 3D printed elastic footbed, which was parametrically built in a “extra-thick” lattice structure for superior ventilation and zonal comfort. The LuxCreo 3D printed elastomer used in the product is said by the manufacturer to provide “excellent” energy return, robustness, and conformity with AFIRM RSL.

After being subjected to 1 million cycles at 2000 newtons, or four times the average human weight, LuxCreo claims the elastomer material lost less than 3% of its original shape and function.

Over the course of 30 years, the ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS) reportedly scanned the feet of over a million people and conducted over 100,000 biomechanical studies to support the creation of the sandal.

Years of collaboration between LuxCreo and ASICS resulted in a line of 3D-printed footwear, featuring highly customizable alternatives like the ACTIBREEZETM HYBRID SANDAL. Previous editions have been extremely popular, selling out almost immediately after their release. In 2021, the two companies collaborated to introduce 3D printed performance sandal, and in 2022, they released the completely 3D printed ACTIBREEZETM 3D SANDAL.

The 3D-printed elastic footbed of the updated sandal is parametrically built in an extra-thick lattice structure to provide superior airflow, zonal comfort, and lightweight wear. The LuxCreo 3D printed elastomer it employs is the finest in its class, providing great energy return, robustness, and conforming to AFIRM RSL standards. Less than 3% deformation in shape and performance was observed after 1,000,000 cycles at 2000 newtons (4 times the typical body weight) on this elastomer material.

Over the course of 30 years, the ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS) scanned the feet of over a million people and conducted over 100,000 biomechanical studies to support the creation of the 3D printed performance sandal.

Our partnership with ASICS is a reflection of the visionary spirit that motivates both of our organizations. According to Michael Strohecker, Co-Founder and Chief Revenue Officer, LuxCreo, “by bringing a consumer hybrid 3D printed performance sandal product to market, we are pushing the frontiers of what is possible and building a relationship that lives on innovation and quality.” “Together, we are expanding footwear’s potential.”

LuxCreo’s Smart Factory Manufacturing Service utilizes 200 printers worldwide to make the sandals possible. The service utilizes digital 3D printing files to manufacture things in a variety of quantities, configurations, and on-demand schedules.

As ASICS’s senior manager of global product line footwear, Chris Ekman said, “It was not easy to find the right partner for this project. We looked for a collaborator who shared our enthusiasm for unconventional methods of 3D printing and whose resources were second to none. We required a crew that could increase output without sacrificing quality, that was well-seasoned, and overflowing with raw ability. The results show that LuxCreo is that partner.

The 3D printed performance sandal are made possible by LuxCreo’s Smart Factory Production Service, which utilizes the company’s network of more than 200 printers across the world to make high- or low-volume, high-mix with low-volume, customized, or just-in-time goods from digital 3D printing files. The Smart Factory is changing the way things are made by reliably producing high-yield batches using many 3D printers.

Finding the right partner to work with on this project was difficult. We looked for a collaborator who shared our enthusiasm for unconventional methods of 3D printing and whose resources were second to none. We required a crew that could increase output without sacrificing quality, that was well-seasoned, and overflowing with raw ability. According to ASICS’s Senior Manager of Global Product Line Footwear, Chris Ekman, LuxCreo has proven to be that partner.
