Conflux Technology, a pioneering thermal technology company, has created a compact heat exchanger that embeds an additive manufactured core into traditionally manufactured housings, utilising their deep specialist knowledge in thermal solutions. This 3D printed heat exchanger, known as the Conflux Cartridge, has a scalable design and rapid configuration, making it suitable for a variety of industries, including automotive, electric vehicles, defence, aerospace, industrial, and energy.

“The Conflux Cartridge delivers low pressure-drop and high heat transfer in a compact design. The embedded thermal transfer lowers plumbing volume, performance impact and risks. Our growing suite of Conflux products each offers features tailored to our customer’s specific application fluids and packaging requirements.”

The Conflux Cartridge offers a wide range of design options and can be configured for custom boundary conditions. and even more in the world.

While additive manufacturing (AM) has been investigated for compact heat exchangers (HX), the development focus has rarely considered customisable or serviceable designs.

The Conflux Cartridge heat exchanger is a sophisticated 3D printed core that can be embedded in a conventionally manufactured part or casing. The distinct ‘cartridge’ for insertion incorporates Conflux CoreTM patented technology, allowing it to be inserted into an external mechanism or casing. As a result, a compact, serviceable, customisable, and interchangeable heat exchanger provides a plethora of benefits across a wide range of applications, including performance, integration, accessibility, and maintainability.

It is ideal for small powertrain and energy systems due to the balance of thermal and hydraulic performance for complex thermal systems achieved through scalable and low-cost production. Furthermore, the ability to mass-produce the cartridge heat exchanger with industrial DMLS machines keeps costs lower than comparable traditionally manufactured options.

“Our customers continue to be impressed with the fine details we are manufacturing with our advanced techniques and our patented technology. We are excited to be able to show how this level of performance is possible in such a compact package” says

– Ben Batagol, Head of Business Development, Conflux Technology
