Formlabs, one of the world’s leading manufacturer of desktop Stereolithography 3D printers, announces the launch of Formlabs Dental Academy, a new educational platform dedicated to advancing dental 3D printing through online and in-person courses, step-by-step guides, webinars, and more.
The platform offers both free and paid courses designed to help dental professionals like dental lab technicians, orthodontists, and clinicians learn and successfully implement 3D printing technology in their practices. Dental Academy courses are open and available both online and in-person.
Incorporating 3D printing into a dental treatment plan benefits practitioners by allowing for more efficient workflows and less downtime, while providing patients with personalized yet affordable solutions such as custom dental models, crowns, dentures, implants, and more.
Formlabs Dental Academy
Formlabs Dental, a division of Formlabs, has collaborated closely with key stakeholders and industry leaders to deliver cutting-edge and accessible 3D printing solutions and materials through its newly launched Dental Academy. While Formlabs users have printed over 25 million dental parts ranging from models to surgical guides, Formlabs Dental has identified a gap in dental 3D printing education, which is stifling further adoption of the technology.
To address this skills gap, Formlabs developed Dental Academy as a free resource for dental professionals to unlock these benefits through comprehensive training and educational content on the uses and benefits of 3D printing, dental applications, and materials to deliver the best clinical outcomes, user satisfaction, and improved performance and print results.
“Formlabs Dental delivers 3D printers, materials, and workflows to meet dental industry needs and support efficient, affordable personalized care, and improved patient outcomes. Formlabs Dental Academy is the next step towards empowering the industry to capture those benefits by growing professionals’ skillset, knowledge, and businesses with 3D printing. The platform provides free online courses, educational content, and hands-on workshops that enable both dental labs, dentists, and orthodontists to begin or advance their digital dentistry knowledge and skills to benefit both their practice and their patients.”
– Philipp Striebe, global dental marketing manager, Formlabs
Formlabs is collaborating with industry leaders, educators, and educational institutions such as universities, private centers, and others to develop curriculum that supports undergraduate, postgraduate, and MSc education. These institutions include the London Dental Institute, SWECADD, and Capacitación Pérez Giugovaz. The platform offers a wide range of courses with subject matter to suit a wide range of participants’ knowledge, as well as online and in-person instruction in Formlabs’ offices in Boston, Berlin, and Budapest, as well as trusted private educational centers.
“The Swedish organization for Computer Aided Digital Dentistry is honored to be part of the Formlabs Dental Academy. Formlabs has long been in the forefront of additive manufacturing in dentistry and now they have a great educational portal for everyone.”
– Dr. Michael Braian, DDS, CDT, PhD, Founder of SWECADD and Formlabs Dental key opinion leader
As new content becomes available, Dental Academy will continue to evolve. An introduction to stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing and its use for orthodontic and restorative applications, the benefits of digital dentistry, training on technology basics, materials, and implementation strategies within the clinic and lab, and more will be covered. Courses will be available in English, Spanish, Swedish, and German upon launch.
