NITTE, Deemed to be University, in collaboration with Wipro3D, a leading provider of metal additive manufacturing solutions and services, announced the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Digital Manufacturing. The ceremony took place on February 5, 2024, at the NMAM Institute of Technology in NITTE, Udupi, and was attended by dignitaries from both institutions as well as industry leaders.

Wipro3D also installed its industrial Fused Deposition Modelling 3D printer the F300-2, at the center as the sole desktop FDM machine.

Distinguished dignitaries attended the ceremony, including Dr. Ravi Kumar, Professor at NIT-Warangal, Dr. Praveen Kumar Shetty, Director (R&D) at NITTE Deemed to be University, and Mr. Yathiraj Kasal, General Manager & Business Head at Wipro3D, Bengaluru. Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAMIT, NITTE, Dr. Srinivas Pai P, HOD, Dept of Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT, NITTE, and Dr. Vijeesh V, Associate Director (R&D) NITTE off-campus centre, Associate Professor Dept of Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT, NITTE, were also in attendance.

The Centre of Excellence in Digital Manufacturing is poised to transform additive manufacturing by offering a cutting-edge platform for research, collaboration, and skill development. The centre, which has cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art facilities, aims to push the boundaries of innovation in digital manufacturing processes and techniques.

During the inauguration, the centre also installed two desktop machines: the Wipro3D Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) F300-2 and the Digital Lithography Processing (DLP) ELEGOO Mercury Plus. These machines will be critical tools for the centre’s research and development efforts.

Following the CoE’s inauguration, dignitaries kicked off a five-day Faculty Development on “Strategies for Enhancing Surface Integrity, Mechanical Properties, and Minimising Residual Stress in Additively Manufactured Components” sponsored by the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing (NCAM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.

The establishment of the NITTE-Wipro3D Centre of Excellence in Digital Manufacturing demonstrates both institutions’ commitment to promoting innovation, research, and collaboration in the field of digital manufacturing. It is a significant step forward in the journey of using technology to drive economic growth and societal development.
