Meltio, a disruptive wire-laser metal deposition additive manufacturing technology leader, has announced that its new partner One Off Robotics, an industry leader in robotic additive manufacturing has introduced the One Off Robotics Cell, a robotic metal additive system powered by the Meltio engine. It is a turn-key workcell designed to produce parts faster, more efficiently, and reliably.

One Off Robotics is one of Meltio’s key partners in supporting wire-laser metal 3D printing in the United States. Their new turnkey system can be quickly and easily installed in any factory environment.

One Off Robotics Cell – Robotic Metal Additive System

The One Off Robotics Cell is a robotic metal additive system that utilises Meltio’s Wire Laser Metal Deposition (W-LMD) technology. The system produces low-cost, finely printed metal parts for use in a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, mining, oil and gas, and many more.

With a deposition rate of up to 1 kg per hour, this system excels at producing clean, fully dense parts that are mechanically equivalent or superior to those produced using traditional methods. The system seamlessly integrates control, allowing the user to quickly adjust settings and print. Its 8-axis system simplifies complex geometry printing and is designed to work with both the Meltio Space robotic slicer and other robotic additive software.

The new One Off Robotics Cell powered by Meltio, manufactured in the United States, uses standard welding wire to produce parts that are consistent, spatter-free, and clean. The robot and positioner are mounted on a self-supporting platform within a custom, laser-safe enclosure, ensuring both safe operation and quick installation.

The system package consists of the robot, W-LMD system, two-axis positioner, Meltio machine vision laser alignment tool, welding camera, and safety enclosure. Package add-ons for the thermal SWIR camera include multi-material dual wire printing and hot wire printing for increased speed. Meltio and One Off Robotics will also provide system training and instructional materials upon delivery, ensuring unparalleled technical support for end users across all industries.

Workcell Technical Specifications

  • Robot: Kuka KR70 R2100 +  2 axis positioner or ABB IRB4600 +  2 axis positioner
  • Build Envelope : 1m3

“Meltio’s main commitment with this new product offering with the One Off Robotics Cell powered by Meltio, Made in the USA is to offer all types of industries the ability to manage the entire manufacturing process using our metal 3D printing technology consisting of a Meltio head integrated into a robotic arm and a safe environment, to just produce parts. This new hardware system allows the customer to receive a ready-to-use cell for robotic metal 3D printing, removing the integration process and long assembly lead times.”

– Alejandro Nieto, Meltio Engine Product Manager, Meltio

Nick Johnson, CEO of One Off Robotics, said, “One Off Robotics has spent years designing and building large-format robotic additive manufacturing work cells. We’re thrilled to expand our offerings to include a turnkey Meltio Robotic additive system. Our focus is customer success, so we designed this system from the ground up to be quickly installed and easily operated.”

The One Off Robotics Cell is an evolution of Meltio’s standard Engine Robot Integration, which is also certified to work with KUKA and ABB robot arms. The new system is an advanced yet user-friendly system designed to enable industries around the world to adopt Meltio’s metal additive manufacturing technology.

About One Off Robotics: One Off Robotics is a group of highly skilled engineers, designers, and architects working to create the world’s most advanced robotic fabrication systems. It provides turnkey solutions for additive, subtractive, and hybrid manufacturing processes.
