Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) launched the 3D Printing Strategic Alliance initiative, as a part of the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy, on Monday with an aim to a comprehensive network of government entities, academia and 3D printing companies in the UAE and the world.

 Dubai 3D Printing Strategy

The Dubai 3D Printing Strategy was inaugurated in 2016 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the strategy aims to leverage this promising technology to benefit society and boost the performance of key sectors.

The “Dubai 3D Printing Strategy” is integrated into the Emirate’s strategic development plan for cost reduction, productivity and performance improvement of products and environmental impact mitigation. The Dubai 3D Printing Strategy aims to make Dubai a world-class 3D printing hub. Among the concrete initiatives included in the Strategy is the introduction of a new law under which 25% of new buildings’ components must be manufactured with 3D printing technology by 2025.

According to Dubai Future Foundation, the new 3D printing strategic alliance includes DFF, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Roads and Transportation Authority, Khalifa University, Higher Colleges of Technology and ten international and local 3D printing technology companies.

Sheikh Hamdan also mentioned, “Through this 3D Printing Strategic Alliance, we will work in cooperation with 3D printing companies to enhance industrial capabilities, secure essential needs and develop new production lines, while simultaneously applying future technologies.”

During his visit to the Dubai Future Foundation headquarters in Emirates Tower, he also called for the establishment of a specialised zone for companies working within 3D printing sector.
