SLM Solutions and Chromalloy are pleased to announce their partnership to accelerate and enhance aviation and energy solutions through additive manufacturing production. Chromalloy, a global aerospace and energy technology company, has selected SLM Solutions as its metal additive manufacturing partner and has purchased its first SLM® machine, the powerful SLM®280.

With prior experience in metal-based additive manufacturing, Chromalloy will now focus on developing high-quality metal parts using SLM Solutions’ dependable and open-architecture technology, focusing on its proprietary LifeX® products and services that reduce the cost and duration of engine overhauls while maintaining the high safety and quality standards demanded by customers and the industry.

Enhancing Aviation and Energy Solutions

Chromalloy offers a wide range of aftermarket aviation and energy solutions to respective industries, and is the leading independent supplier of proprietary parts and advanced components for jet engines and gas turbines. The combination of Chromalloy’s expertise and SLM Solutions’ cutting-edge technology is expected to set a new standard and continue to push the boundaries of technology in the additive manufacturing industry.

“We are looking forward to positively impacting our product development time with SLM’s proven uptime and dedicated service group. We’re relying on the high availability to allow us to focus on our proprietary LifeX® products and services that lower the cost and duration of an engine overhaul while maintaining the high safety and quality standards our customers and the industry demand.”

According to Jim Whitton, Director, Technology Strategy at Chromalloy, “We’re excited to kick off the next chapter in Chromalloy’s additive applications with SLM Solutions, backed by their industrial machine design and the innovative goals of their customers in mind.”

The robust technology and equipment, as well as the open architecture strategy of the machines, are the keys to SLM Solutions’ success.

Rich Cline, Regional Sales Manager, Southern US of SLM Solutions, explains, “For us, the customer always comes first. This means that our industry-leading solutions are completely adaptable if desired. It puts the user in control to maximise the value of their SLM® machine to develop, enhance, and ultimately produce their metal AM applications as they wish. Our technology allows our customers to create competitive advantages and even develop IP around their own materials, applications, or process parameters.”. He further explains: “Chromalloy’s decision to move to an SLM® machine speaks to SLM Solutions’ success and underscores its technological leadership. Together we will accelerate the use of metal-based additive manufacturing.”

“That additive manufacturing is being used for turbine applications is the reality. Many critical components are built with LPBF and operate in very challenging conditions. We are proud to collaborate with Chromalloy, a leading expert of engines in power generation, O&G, and aviation sectors. Together, we can set a benchmark and continue to push the boundaries of technology.”
