In the recently concluded Birmingham TCT show 2019, it launched several new products along with the Ultimaker S3 FFF 3D Printer. It is the latest addition to its S-line of 3D printers and is considered to be an affordable version of the S5 but equally powerful with smaller dimensions.

We have listed below several of the most prominent features of the Ultimaker S3 FFF 3D Printer.

Dual Extruder Filament Flow Sensors

The printer has dual extruders and so they are individually fitted with flow sensors that increase the print success rate. If the filament runs out then the printer pauses the print and waits till you add a new spool to resume the printing.

Advanced Active Levelling

Auto-bed levelling is now the minimum for desktop 3D printers which ensures easy and reliable first-layer adhesion. It saves a lot of time and improves the print success rate.

Rigid Printer Frame

The printer has a rigid frame to reduce small vibrations while it is in operation to improve overall print quality

Large Touchscreen Interface

The award-winning (Winner of iF Design Award 2019) 4.7-inch color touch screen interface gives the user access to the printer configuration, maintenance, and directly queue prints from an attached USB pen drive.

CAD Integration

The S3 comes with a direct CAD/CAM integration with SolidWorks, Siemens NX, and Autodesk Inventor owing to the plugins available on the Cura Marketplace.

Single Glass Door

Ultimaker S3 comes with a single glass door with a magnetic latch to provide a more controlled build environment to reduce the risk of warping or delamination.

Internal Power Supply removes the need to make space for a power brick. It also makes the setup process easy across all S-line 3D printers

PRICING: ULTIMAKER S3 FFF 3D PRINTER

The Ultimaker S3 is targeted to industrial usage and so it is priced accordingly. The launch price is $4,395. It is definitely an affordable proposition than its big brother, the Ultimaker S5.

FINAL VERDICT: ULTIMAKER S3 FFF 3D PRINTER

The Ultimaker is a powerful and reliable FFF 3D printer with a professional touch. The features seem to be carefully designed to give it a professional feel to attract and target the office environment instead of schools and enthusiasts. The pricing also keeps it in range of the industries.

Apart from the hardware, Ultimaker has managed to create some important partnerships and programs which its competitors have failed to do so. The Cura Marketplace, the pre-defined print profiles and the material alliance program is a great addition to the overall ecosystem which Ultimaker sells along with the printer.

While it is still to be shipped, the printer definitely seems to be a healthy addition to the Ultimaker line of 3D printers.
