Wipro3D, the additive manufacturing arm of Wipro, signed a MoU with the National Design and Research Forum (NDRF) to work together and drive the use of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) in aerospace industry and to develop related industry standards.
Wipro3D, established in 2012, was a part of Wipro’s strategic initiative into the future of manufacturing. Over the years, Wipro3D has gained expertise in metal additive manufacturing by providing services & solutions to the aerospace, automotive, healthcare, defence, tooling, nuclear and many other sectors.
With this expertise at its foundation, Wipro3D, is now aiming to drive the growth of the technology in India. Through its MoU with NDRF, it will also offer competency building and advisory programmes relating to additive manufacturing technology.
The Memorandum of Association was signed at the Golden Jubilee press meet of NDRF in the presence of celebrated Chairman of NDRF and also Director, ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), Bangalore, Dr. M Annadurai and Wipro3D’s Vice-President & Business Head, Ajay Parikh.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Annadurai said, “NDRF and Wipro 3D are joining together to create industry standards and generate design for additive manufacturing pedigree for aerospace systems.”
He added, “3D printing/additive manufacturing is a technology which is going to revolutionise the future world, requiring industry standards and pioneering attempts in terms of design.”
NDRF, is an autonomous forum of the Institution of Engineers (India) which promotes research, design, development, productionisation and innovation through collaborative efforts since 1969.
NDRF is celebrating its 50th year of formation during 2019-20, with a string of new initiatives. NDRF and “Space Kids India” announced that they would jointly host a national competition for students to innovatively design payloads in cube satellite and launch it to near Space on January 19 next year. Necessary technical guidance, hand-holding and provision of 3D printed satellite bodies will be arranged by NDRF and Space Kids India.
