The British business AM Centre of Intelligence (AM-COE), which specializes in the creation of innovative resins, and the worldwide 3D printers’ maker Zortrax signed a letter of intent on July 18, 2023. The team is working together to create a 3D printer optimized for high-performance ceramic materials. AM-COE will get the printers from the solution’s manufacturer, Zortrax.
Zortrax has partnered with AM Centre of Intelligence to create and commercialize a high-end 3D printer capable of printing with tough ceramic resins. Zortrax is well-versed in the design and implementation of resin 3D printers, automatic post-processing devices, a variety of resins, and printing software. In turn, AM Centre of Intelligence has the necessary resources to do cutting-edge research and manufacture high-end resins for specialized applications.
“The cooperation between Zortrax and AM Centre of Intelligence will allow us to develop an optimal solution for printing demanding ceramic resins. I am convinced that Zortrax engineers’ experience and skills in the development of resin 3D printers, peripheral devices, and printing software, combined with the relevant background of AM Centre of Intelligence, specializing in the production of ceramic resins, will lead to the release of a modern printer, tailored to the needs and requirements of both businesses and individual users producing ceramic parts.” – underlines Mariusz Babula, CEO at Zortrax.
Zortrax’s R&D department has been regularly utilizing resin 3D printing for several years. Zortrax Inkspire 2 resin 3D printer and two automatic resin post-processing devices, Zortrax Cleaning Station and Zortrax Curing Station, were released as part of the Zortrax Powerful Trio resin printing system last year. The extensive work done in collaboration with BASF Forward AM and Henkel/Loctite on the double validation of Zortrax machines and the expansion of the resin portfolio, as well as the numerous technical improvements introduced in the Powerful Trio, has provided invaluable experience in the collaboration with AM-COE and the development of a new specialized printer designed to work with ceramic resins.

“AM Centre of Intelligence is the biggest research and manufacturing centre on vat-photopolymerization of ceramic parts and components for aerospace, electronics, chemical, automotive, and other industries. In our strive for offering a mass manufacturing solution for 3D printed ceramics, we’ve partnered up with Zortrax to develop a versatile, fast, effective, and affordable ceramic 3D printer, like no other.
This excellent machine is an open-source solution with free software that assists researchers to develop material and ceramic printing processes, as well as manufacturers who are after a low-maintenance and easy-to-run ceramic printer for mass manufacturing.” – says Ehsan Sabet, CEO at AM Centre of Intelligence.
Whereas 3D printing is primarily utilized for prototyping and mass production of casting patterns and ceramic cores, AM-COE offers state-of-the-art research laboratories for resin manufacturing and a primary focus on the design of light-cured materials.
Zortrax will manufacture the printers with embedded firmware as part of the collaboration agreement with AM Centre of Intelligence, and will also apply the specialized Z-SUITE software built for the exclusive purpose of preparing ceramic resin models on the printer created for the project.
Zortrax will also be in charge of the printer’s warranty and regular software and firmware updates. Consulting services for ceramic resin printing, distribution of the new printer, and testing of the software before to each update are all responsibilities of AM Centre of Intelligence.
