3D Systems introduced the ProJet MJP 2500W Plus as a new jewellery 3D printing solution. It is specifically designed to produce complex, high-quality, pure wax 3D printed jewellery patterns with unrivalled speed and precision for use in lost wax casting. The ProJet MJP 2500W Plus can produce high-resolution 100% wax casting patterns in hours.

Furthermore, the new high-resolution printing mode allows for best-in-class smooth pure wax casting patterns that require less finishing, reducing precious metal waste. This allows for the rapid and cost-effective creation, iteration, and production of all jewellery styles, including those with the most complex geometries.

The requirement for manual polishing can place a significant strain on resources — both talent and materials — and can have a negative impact on profitability. To address this issue, the ProJet MJP 2500W Plus 3D printer – a jewellery 3D printing solution was developed. This printer includes a new ZHD print mode that improves vertical resolution by up to 2x without increasing wax material consumption. The resulting high-quality surface finish reduces the need for manual polishing of final parts, reducing gold loss and potentially improving profitability.

Furthermore, with less polishing required, customers can create increasingly complex designs for which polishing is impractical.

Meeting demand while maintaining high quality standards necessitates rapid design iteration and customization, as well as the ability to deliver high-volume production batches. When compared to currently available solutions, the ProJet MJP 2500W Plus helped customers increase their throughput by up to 25%. Customers can benefit from faster time to parts-in-hand and more flexibility in planning builds with higher printer productivity.

VisiJet Wax Materials and 3D Sprint Software

Customers can quickly and consistently generate micro-detail, precision, 100% wax sacrificial casting patterns for high capacity jewellery production when used as part of 3D Systems’ comprehensive MultiJet Printing solution for jewellery casting, which includes the ProJet MJP 2500W Plus, VisiJet® wax materials, and 3D Sprint® software.

The ProJet MJP 2500W Plus 3D printer prints true-to-CAD and fine feature definition jewellery patterns with exact, razor-sharp edges and extremely crisp details in VisiJet 100% wax materials. VisiJet wax melts like standard casting waxes, but it contains no ash, resulting in defect-free castings. It is durable for handling and casting fine features, and the high contrast colours allow for easy visualisation of fine detail. Furthermore, the advanced 3D Sprint software capabilities of 3D Systems allow users to streamline their file-to-pattern workflow.

“Producing jewellery requires the ability to bring complex, creative designs to life. The global jewellery additive manufacturing market is estimated at over $2 billion and is growing quickly due to the increased productivity, quality, flexibility, and design freedom enabled by this technology.”

– Scott Anderson, Vice President, Segment Leader, 3D Systems

Anderson added, “Today, we’re excited to announce the ProJet MJP 2500W Plus, with increased resolution and productivity that is unmatched in the industry. This innovation allows our customers to deliver exceptional design styles, while reducing pattern production time and operational costs, meeting the demands of a mass-customization environment. Coupled with the reliable and repeatable direct casting of our 100% wax solution, users will be able to achieve cost-effective, high-quality casting patterns with quick turnaround and high throughput.”

The ProJet MJP 2500W Plus is now available for purchase and shipping.
