Dow Launches New Liquid Silicone Rubber 3D Printing Materials

Key Takeaways

THE TWO NEW 3D PRINTING MATERIALS WERE LAUNCHED AT THE 2019 INTERNATIONAL ELASTOMER CONFERENCE (IEC) IN CLEVELAND, OHIO

Dow, a global leader in silicone elastomer science, launched new liquid silicone rubber 3D printing materials for use in liquid additive manufacturing (LAM) 3D printing. It is enabling greater design freedom and process efficiency with its latest introduction to the North American elastomer market.

As part of the full portfolio of high-performance SILASTIC™ silicone elastomers on display at the 2019 International Elastomer Conference (IEC) in Cleveland, Ohio, Dow announces the launch of the SILASTIC™ LTC 9400 Series Liquid Silicone Rubbers (LSRs) & SILASTIC™ 3D 3335 Liquid Silicone Rubber.  This improved low-temperature cure LSR opens the material to new applications across a wide range of industries, including automotive, electronics and consumer.

Speaking about the new 3D printing materials, Gifford Shearer, Market Manager, and Silicone Elastomers said, “The LSR market today is being driven by growing customer demands for optimum quality, processing, and efficiency, as well as greater design and application flexibility. Low-temperature cure LSRs, like the SILASTIC™ LTC 9400 LSRs, lend themselves well to addressing each of these needs as customers look to get more from the silicone rubber products they use. We look forward to seeking together new possibilities in this space and across the entire silicone elastomer market, beginning at the International Elastomer Conference.”

This innovative technology allows for rapid curing at a lower temperature, with flexible applications in the automotive, consumer, and electronics industries. SILASTIC™ LTC 9400 Series LSRs meets customer demands for high-quality and efficient silicones that offer energy saving capabilities to designs.

An ideal solution for high-volume injection moulding applications, SILASTIC™ LTC 9400 LSR provides fast temperature activation across a wide processing-temperature range. The low-temperature curing nature of this series allows over moulding the LSR elastomers onto low-melting-point plastics or other thermally sensitive components, including electronics devices – an application previously not possible with LSRs. Beyond design and application flexibility, customers can also expect to see greater efficiency, process-ability, robustness and energy savings when incorporating SILASTIC™ LTC 9400 LSRs into their specifications.

SILASTIC™ 3D 3335 Liquid Silicone Rubber is a ground-breaking silicone material formulated specifically to combine the performance benefits of silicone rubber with the design and processing advantages of liquid additive manufacturing (LAM) 3D printing.  It is suitable for use on a wide range of liquid additive manufacturing (LAM) 3D printers.

SILASTIC™ 3D 3335 Liquid Silicone Rubber can help optimize your supply chain and eliminate the need for injection-moulding machines and tooling. It also can speed up the time to market for new articles in a manner that cannot be achieved through conventional technology.

It can be used in applications like fast prototyping, small manufacturing of complex parts, creation of customized parts and/or new designs & even applications where typical LSRs are used.

Dow has kept the sample 3D printed parts on display at their booth (#1248) at the 2019 International Elastomer Conference. Visitors can also speak to the technical experts to know more details on the same.
