Snapmaker, the Shenzhen-based desktop 3D printer manufacturer, has announced that the Snapmaker U1 3D printer will be available in stock across all global warehouses from April 10, 2026, marking the machine’s official transition from crowdfunded pre-order to retail availability. The price rises from the current pre-order rate of $849/€849 (approximately ₹80,500) to $899/€899 (approximately ₹85,500) on the same date.

The U1 is a CoreXY desktop machine built around a proprietary four-toolhead swapping mechanism designed to reduce the waste and downtime typically associated with multi-colour 3D printing. The printer originally debuted on Kickstarter in 2025, where it raised over $20 million from more than 20,000 backers, making it the most-funded 3D printer project in the platform’s history.

The U1’s core differentiator is SnapSwap, Snapmaker’s proprietary toolhead-swapping system. Rather than routing multiple filaments through a single nozzle, an approach that requires extensive purging between colour transitions, the Snapmaker U1 3D printer carries four independent toolheads, each pre-loaded with its own filament and nozzle. When a colour change is needed, the printer physically swaps the active toolhead in approximately five seconds.

Because each toolhead operates as a dedicated extruder, there is no cross-contamination between transitions and no material to flush during printing. Purging occurs only at the start of a print or during calibration. Snapmaker states that the system reduces filament waste by up to 80% per print and delivers up to five times faster multi-colour output compared to conventional single-nozzle methods. The 270 × 270 × 270 mm build volume positions the U1 as moderately larger than current multi-material systems such as the Bambu Lab P2S or Prusa CORE One.

Hardware and Core Specifications

The U1 is a CoreXY machine with the following core specifications:

  • 270 × 270 × 270 mm build volume
  • Maximum print speed of 500 mm/s with 20,000 mm/s² acceleration
  • Four independent toolheads with stainless steel 0.4 mm nozzles
  • Maximum nozzle temperature of 300°C
  • Maximum heated bed temperature of 100°C
  • Flexible steel sheet with PEI build surface
  • Automatic filament loading
  • Overall dimensions of 584 × 499 × 730 mm at 18.2 kg

Base material compatibility covers PLA, PETG, TPU, PVA, and PCTG. An optional top cover extends support to ABS, ASA, PA, and PC, whilst a hardened steel nozzle variant adds carbon-fibre-reinforced and glass-fibre-reinforced polymers.

Software and Material Ecosystem

Alongside the retail launch, Snapmaker has rolled out updates to its software and material ecosystem. A March 24 update to Snapmaker Orca and the companion mobile app introduces 30 print-ready models built into the platform, sourced from community designers, in-house teams, and new creators. The app also supports remote print management, monitoring, and time-lapse capture, with AI-powered failure detection planned for a future update.

On the materials side, 15 new RFID-enabled filament colours are now available for immediate shipping. The RFID integration allows the Snapmaker U1 3D printer to identify loaded materials automatically, streamlining setup for multi-material workflows.

Pricing and Global Availability

The Snapmaker U1 3D printer is available for pre-order at $849/€849 (approximately ₹82,500) until April 10, 2026. From that date, pricing transitions to $899/€899 (approximately ₹85,500), and the machine will ship from all global warehouses. Snapmaker has indicated that further ecosystem expansion, including additional models, materials, and accessories, is planned through 2026 as the company positions the U1 as an evolving platform rather than a standalone product.

The U1 enters an increasingly competitive desktop multi-colour segment, positioning its four-toolhead approach as a distinct alternative to the single-nozzle, purge-dependent systems that currently dominate the consumer market.
