UltiMaker, a global leader in desktop 3D printing, has announced significant speed improvements for its S series 3D printers. Customers can now double their 3D printing speeds while still able to maintain the S series’ notable print success rates of 95% or higher.

The S series is UltiMaker’s most popular and versatile professional 3D printer line, supporting over 280 materials and an expanding library of print profiles from the UltiMaker Marketplace.

We have time and again mentioned that the speed improvements and launch of faster 3D printers by all new and existing brands can be traced back to the launch of the Bambu Labs 3D printers. This launch has had a significant impact on the future of desktop 3D printing and it has changed how consumers perceive 3D printing. The resulting demand has shifted the course and we are not witnessing the era of high-speed desktop 3D printing.

Customers can now accelerate their printing without sacrificing print success with UltiMaker S series 3D printers, which are powered by UltiMaker Cura, the world’s most popular 3D printing slicer, and driven by optimisations to Intent profiles for UltiMaker’s print cores and materials.

The S series now includes a range of optimised speed profiles, standardised across various line types and fine-tuned when printing with various print profiles and UltiMaker-branded materials, including PLA, Tough PLA, PETG, and ABS, with the latest Cura 5.5 release. Other enhancements include optimised handling of material flow rates and nozzle pressures when switching between line types, ensuring no loss of print quality during transitions; smooth internal wall pathing, which reduces print time and irregular movement; and reduced erratic infill motions, which smooth out print head movement.

“We know that speed is only one part of the 3D printing success formula. UltiMaker printers have been trusted for years based on their reliability. We aim to create better experiences for our customers, and we believe that by optimizing the S series to speed up printing, our customers can accelerate returns on investment, enable faster time to market, and leverage the limitless possibilities of 3D printing.”

– Michiel Alting von Geusau, CEO, UltiMaker

The advantages of these speed increases go beyond simply faster printing. Customers can reduce development cycles, allowing for faster design changes and facilitating hands-on feedback from stakeholders. Customers can also expect more agile production processes, which allow for quicker responses to changing market demands. Customers can also increase supply chain resilience by reducing warehousing costs and protecting against disruptions with digital inventory on-demand.
