3DEO Registers an Annual Growth of 600% over 2018 with its ‘Solutions-Oriented’ Approach

3DEO, a metal 3D printing solutions provider from California, U.S., registered a massive 600% annual growth over 2018. The company attributes its growth to its solutions-oriented metal 3D printing approach to help traditional manufacturing companies to compete in the high-volume manufacturing scenario without the need to shell out millions of dollars for a metal 3D printer and the supporting infrastructure.

3DEO is known for its patented Intelligent Layering® technology that unlocks the potential of metal 3D printing in serial production to directly compete with traditional manufacturing in terms of part pricing, material properties, and quantities.

Intelligent Layering Technology

Intelligent Layering® is a proprietary technology developed by 3DEO. Based on Binder Jetting technology, Intelligent Layering uses a system of sprays to bind an entire layer followed by a CNC end mill to cut the perimeter of the part and any internal features.

The typical flow of the process is as below:

  1. Spread a layer of powder
  2. Spray a binder to entire area of powder
  3. A cutter then shapes the perimeter of the part
  4. Next layer spread to continue building
  5. Spray another layer of binder
  6. Cut the perimeter of the new layer
  7. Repeat these steps until the object is built
  8. When done, the part goes into a sintering process
  9. Finishing will depend on the part needs, but this produces near net shaped parts.

3DEO’s solutions oriented approach means that instead of taking its technology directly to market through the sale of machines, 3DEO is providing metal 3D printing service as a marketplace. This enables the company to control the quality of the output and provide a successful and cost-effective printing experience to its customers. So, the customers do not have to go through the complete learning process and they get the job done at prices comparable to traditional manufacturing processes.

As evidenced by 3DEO’s success metrics for 2019, this paradigm shift could be a forerunner to building the factory of the future.

[penci_blockquote style=”style-3″ align=”none” author=”Matt Sand, 3DEO President ” font_style=”italic” uppercase=”false”]We are very proud of the growth that was accomplished over the last year. It is clear that 2020 will be another record-setting year for 3DEO as our pace of adoption across all industries is accelerating. More than a metal 3D printing company, 3DEO is a solutions provider helping our customers tackle their most challenging manufacturing problems. What’s more, almost every customer we are working with is using metal 3D printing in production for the first time. We are in the trenches with our customers, and our growth curve is a testament to the demand for these solutions. In the end, our mission is to do for manufacturing what Amazon’s AWS did for the internet by offering low-cost access to flexible, scalable, and world-class manufacturing infrastructure.[/penci_blockquote]

Being “solutions oriented” has a significant impact in several key areas:

  • 600% growth in revenues for 2019 over 2018
  • 172% growth in the number of employees—3DEO has 60 employees compared to 22 employees in 2018
  • 566% increase in the number of production printers at 3DEO—printers are built with proprietary technology specialized for serial production—manufactured in USA.
  • 394% increase in number of parts shipped in 2019 over 2018—with approximately 25% of parts being for aerospace, 35% for medical and 40% for defence

3DEO CEO Matt Petros added, “We’re doing things in manufacturing that previously couldn’t be done. And we’re doing it by leveraging several enabling technologies that are converging right now in manufacturing—in a way that finally allows metal 3D printing to shift the serial production paradigm.”

Amidst the downturn in the global economy, especially in manufacturing jobs in America, 3DEO’s new solution-focused business model is creating new jobs. High-tech production workers work with robotics and automation. The most noteworthy employee increase was in the R&D department. With over 25 engineers, 3DEO is continuously improving core processes and technology up and down the production line.

ABOUT 3DEO: Based in Los Angeles, CA, 3DEO invented a patented metal 3D printing technology, which is the core of its next-generation factory. The company supplies complex stainless-steel components in high volumes to customers in the medical, defence, aerospace, and other industrial markets. By working with 3DEO, customers get access to cutting-edge manufacturing technologies in 3D printing, machine learning, and robotics.
