The U.S. Marine Corps System Command’s Advanced Manufacturing Operations Cell (AMOC) has awarded 3YOURMIND, an on-demand manufacturing software platform, and Phillips Corp. Federal Division a $2.5M contract to enhance its digital additive manufacturing (AM) capabilities. 3YOURMIND and Phillips Corp. will collaborate closely with AMOC to further integrate 3YOURMIND’s part identification software with the Marine Corps System Command’s Digital Manufacturing Data Vault (DMDV).

The DMDV is a centralised digital repository for the Marine Corps to host data and design solutions, which is critical for AMOC’s existing AM operations to scale up. By integrating 3YOURMIND’s part identification software with DMDV, warfighters’ efforts to approve spare parts and components for field use will be aided. The effort is part of the Department of Defense’s larger mission to reshore supply chains, establish distributed manufacturing networks, and sustain legacy equipment through the use of additive technologies.

3YOURMIND and Phillips Corp. awarded a $2.5M Contract

Following the completion of a first-year contract with 3YOURMIND and Phillips Corp. Federal Division, the $2.5 million AMOC award was made. The initiative met several key operational milestones in its first year, including validating 3YOURMIND’s part identification capabilities by screening over 10,000 parts and demonstrating connectivity to other software systems used by the DMDV.

The project’s custom-developed algorithm is based on 12 key impact factors that indicate the printability and created value of 3D printing per component. From the first 10,000 parts analysed based on priority and printability, 50 parts were identified with a potential lead time savings of at least 1000 days per component.

In year two, the initiative will build on these achievements by further integrating 3YOURMIND software with proprietary and third-party systems such as PTC Windchill, which is used by DMDV. AMOC will also include 2D drawing analysis capabilities to quickly bulk analyse technical data packages for compelling AM use cases.

“Although additive manufacturing is well-known for cutting-edge innovations, I am encouraged by our work with AMOC and Phillips Corp. to enable the Marine Corps. to use additive to address more common technology and spare parts gaps. I’m am very excited for the opportunity for 3YOURMIND and Phillips Corp. Federal Division to enrich the quality of life of the warfighter by addressing these capability gaps and contribute to the operational readiness that the U.S. Marine Corps prides itself on.”

– William Cuervo, Vice President of Sales, North America, 3YOURMIND

The AMOC award follows an existing partnership between 3YOURMIND and Phillips Corp. Federal Division with the Naval Information Warfare Centre (NIWC) Pacific. In collaboration with NIWC, 3YOURMIND, and Phillips Corp. Federal Division, the company provides technical expertise in software and hardware to create a seamless, digital production workflow that enables distributed manufacturing. AMOC gains access to 3YOURMIND’s order and production management software capabilities as a result of the partnership with NIWC.
