Al Seer Marine, an Abu Dhabi-listed marine company and a subsidiary of International Holding Company (IHC), announced the launch of its 3D printing manufacturing business unit. Al Seer Marine’s move comes as Grand View Research said the global 3D printing market has been valued at $13.78 billion in 2020 and is expected to grow at an annual growth rate of 21 percent from 2021 to 2028.

The technology offers numerous advantages during the manufacturing process, allowing engineers to design parts with increased complexity in significantly shorter timeframes, according to a statement from Al Seer Marine.

According to the company, the new 3D printing manufacturing business unit will use the latest additive manufacturing technologies for in-house manufacturing of unmanned vessels and vehicles.

In addition, the business unit will create large-scale additive manufacturing products and parts that are in high demand both locally and globally.

Guy Neivens, CEO of Al Seer Marine, said, “The company’s decision to pursue additive manufacturing is testament to the technology’s growing influence and diverse applications across a range of sectors. This increased adoption has been largely driven by the digital process behind additive manufacturing, which allows for the creation of bespoke parts with complex geometries and little wastage – rapidly reducing costs and weight considerations while maintaining the part’s strength and integrity.”

Neivens added, “We are confident that our 3D printing manufacturing business unit will be in a position to lead the segment across the region by 2025, introducing numerous advantages to our industrial capabilities and transforming the region’s shipping industry.”

Al Seer Marine was founded in 2003 and has over 1,200 employees. As of the end of September 2021, the company's assets totaled AED6 billion, up from AED717.81 million at the start of the year.

Al Seer Marine offers private customers vessel construction, operation, refurbishment, and yacht management services, as well as fulfilling public sector vessel contracts.
