Formlabs Dental, a global player in the field of 3D printing, has partnered with Digital Smile Design (DSD), a modern dentistry clinic, with the goal of expanding access to digital fabrication so that anyone can make anything. This new collaboration demonstrates DSD’s ongoing commitment to collaborating with key organisations that share common values, a vision for the future of dentistry, and a commitment to advancing the profession.

Dr. Christian Coachman, DSD Founder and CEO, of this new alliance said, “Only great things will happen when we combine the teams from both sides to continue developing the future  of dentistry. Among many other things, we share the same key value with Formlabs of inventing solutions to  make the life of dental professionals easier.”

Digital Smile Design Alliance with Formlabs Dental

Prior to this official partnership, DSD has been a strong supporter of Formlabs Dental for many years, and has used its 3D printers since the Form 2 with significant success in the DSD Lab, which manufactures products for a global client base.

Guillaume Bailliard, President of the Healthcare division of Formlabs explained, “Digital transformation in dentistry is spreading rapidly and Digital Smile Design company is leading the way  with their use of Formlabs 3D printing. To continue industry adoption, education is critical and we’re thrilled to collaborate with Dr. Christian Coachman and DSD to develop robust digital workflow solutions and curricula that will bolster efficiency and patient treatment outcomes that 3D printing provides in dentistry.”

The enthusiasm for this collaboration is echoed by: “With this new collaboration, we look forward to continuing to make printing technology commonplace in dental clinics and advancing the printing of more advanced appliances, based on new resins. All of this will help dentists to provide even better and more precise services for their patients”.

– George Cabanas, Research and Development Manager, DSD

DSD Lab currently has five Form 3B printers and will continue to expand this number. Cabanas added, “The ease of use of the Form 3B/3B+ printers, the variety of resins, and the affordable system price make it a no-brainer for any dental lab to introduce multiple Formlabs printers into their production process.”

Formlabs is a multinational corporation with headquarters in Somerville, Massachusetts, USA. Formlabs Dental, committed to setting a new standard of care in digital dentistry, provides versatile and dependable solutions for 3D printing dental appliances. Hardware and software solutions, biocompatible workflow options, a dental service plan, and the company’s education platform, Dental Academy, are among its offerings.

DSD is excited to make this new collaboration official, and DSD and Formlabs Dental will work together to pursue opportunities that benefit both clinicians and patients. A schedule of dedicated projects is already in the works, ranging from dental education initiatives to research and development.

Align Technology, ZimVie, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Digital Dentistry Society (DDS), and XO Care are among DSD’s other long-standing strategic partners.
