DyeMansion, a leading provider of post-processing solutions, has entered into a strategic partnership with ASM, a fast-growing company specialising in the development of vapour smoothing technologies for 3D printing, to make the latter’s VX1 smoothing technology available to its reseller network, and thus to customers worldwide.
In this collaboration DyeMansion will act as the global go-to-market partner and pave the way for a new standard in entry-level vapour smoothing solutions.
ASM VX1 Smoothing Technology

With its VX1 smoothing system, ASM, a young post-processing company from Munich, provides a cutting-edge and compact entry-level solution that meets the needs of a wide range of industries, allowing for an efficient and successful entry into the world of vapor smoothing.
DyeMansion, the global market leader in industrial post-processing of additively manufactured plastic parts, will provide ASM with strong customer and market access to quickly and effectively establish vapor smoothing worldwide.
In recent years, vapour smoothing has established itself as a technology for processing 3D printed plastic parts, becoming indispensable in a wide range of applications. DyeMansion successfully established itself in this field in 2019 with the release of the Powerfuse S, and has since led the segment of industrial green & automated smoothing systems with nearly 50 installed machines.
The partnership allows resellers and end users to combine DyeMansion’s proven post-processing expertise with ASM’s VX1 smoothing technology. The collaboration aims to integrate the ASM solution into existing post-processing workflows while also expanding the portfolio of available post-processing technologies to meet the growing demand for surface quality in entry-level 3D printing.
“We are excited to partner with ASM to set the new standard in entry-level vapor smoothing solutions for 3D printing. We have the strongest partner network for post-processing workflows and can therefore support technology providers like ASM in bringing innovations to market quickly and comprehensively while enabling customers to easily access new technology.”
– Felix Ewald, CEO & Co-Founder, DyeMansion
Ewald continued, “ASM’s VX1 smoothing system is the perfect addition to our portfolio and offers our customers an easy-to-use and high-quality smoothing solution. In addition, the technologies and the two teams complement each other very well, which forms a strong foundation for our joint success. After extensive analysis, we are convinced that the VX1 is the best machine in this segment.”
Dr. Jakob Neuhäuser, CEO & Co-Founder of ASM, said “With DyeMansion, we have found the ideal partner to roll out our technology globally. Thanks to DyeMansion’s extensive market access and post-processing expertise, we are convinced that our VX1 smoothing system will quickly find its way into the production processes of many companies.”
DyeMansion partners Bechtle Additive Manufacturing Deutschland GmbH and SGSolution AG have already made the VX1 available in Europe. Additional partners will be added in the coming weeks. The system will be available in the United States sometime next year.
“As a vendor for HP MJF printers and DyeMansion post-processing solutions, we have long been looking for a user-friendly entry-level solution for finishing components using chemical smoothing. The ASM VX1 impresses with its first-class smoothing results, compact design and environmentally friendly solvents. Coupled with the very simple operation of the VX1 and the cartridge system, which offers maximum flexibility, the system meets all our requirements and is therefore the perfect solution for getting started with chemical smoothing.”
– Martin Affolter, Managing Director of SGSolution AG states
This collaboration underscores ASM and DyeMansion’s shared goal of further developing 3D printing and setting the highest quality standards in post-processing. The partnership’s strategic goal is to develop and distribute PFAS-free solvents for vapour smoothing. Both companies are committed to making the future of surface finishing safer and more sustainable by eliminating the use of PFAS.
“The EU, the US and other industrialised nations are taking steps to further regulate the use of PFAS chemicals due to their potential to harm the environment and human health. Industrial companies in various sectors are working to eliminate PFAS from their applications. Unfortunately, vapor smoothing is still often based on the use of PFAS solvents. Considering the potential risks to people and the environment in the area of EHS, we believe this is not sustainable. This has to change,” says Felix Ewald.
With this collaboration, the two Munich-based companies lay the groundwork for making vapor smoothing accessible to a wider audience. This will accelerate the growth momentum of powder bed printing for plastics and contribute to a higher adoption rate of the printing technology.
