Formnext 2023 will feature ground-breaking additive manufacturing applications, technologies, and the latest innovations, as well as discussions on relevant topics such as sustainability, cyber security, and investments, in its new multistage conference format.
For the first time, Formnext’s presentation program will be divided into three stages this year: Key AM trends, applications, and exhibitor innovations will be highlighted in the Application Stage, Industry Stage, and Technology Stage.
Application Stage – successful implementations of AM
Major international user companies will demonstrate how they are using Additive Manufacturing to propel their innovations forward during the Application Stage. It addresses, among other things, footwear manufacturing, 3D printed electronics, printed textiles for the fashion industry, aircraft cockpit components, and robotic 3D printing on the moon. Representatives from NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and MT Aerospace will meet to discuss the use of new materials and the hybrid manufacturing of satellite tanks for the aerospace industry (using DED and PBF).
The AUDI AG and the BWT Alpine Formula 1 teams, both of which are no strangers to high speeds on the road and in production, will appear on the Application Stage to demonstrate how they are successfully implementing AM in their industries. Experts from Austria, France, and Germany will discuss similarly fascinating 3D Printing innovations in their companies, as well as how they are successfully bringing innovative applications to rail.
The Application Stage will also provide more in-depth insights into technological developments and the most recent research findings. Users and researchers from universities all over the world will talk about multi-material printing, continuous fiber reinforcement, and 3D printing of tool steel H11.
Another important topic for this stage will be sustainability, with discussions focusing on a wide range of applications such as 3D printing of building facades, AM for bio-inclusive cities, improving energy efficiency, and vertical wind turbines.
Industry Stage – Meta-topics and cross-disciplinary discussions
Sustainability will also be emphasized on the Industry Stage, where well-known companies from the partner region Nordic, such as Equinor, Lego Group, Danfoss A/S, and Grundfos Holding A/S, will discuss how they are conserving resources through Additive Manufacturing. The Industry Stage will also cover other important topics such as supply chain resilience and cybersecurity, which will be addressed by companies such as Viaccess-Orca and Daimler Truck AG – Daimler Buses GmbH, as well as new emerging technologies such as bioprinting and 3D printing of medicine, such as FABRX Ltd.
The subject of investments is also addressed here: During the Pitchnext event, experts (including those from NewCap Partners, HZG Fund Management, Freigeist Capital III GmbH, and AM Ventures Management GmbH) discuss investment and financing options for young AM companies.
Aside from that, the program covers topics such as skill shortages, profitable business models, and challenges and opportunities that the entire AM world is facing.
Technology Stage – Exhibitors showcase their innovations
The list of companies appearing on the Technology Stage reads like a who’s who of the additive manufacturing world, with leading manufacturers joining a slew of newcomers to present and, in some cases, premiere their latest innovations at Formnext 2023. The Technology Stage program covers the entire Additive Manufacturing spectrum, from AM production to materials and pre-processing to post-processing. Visitors will thus have the opportunity to interact with experts and experience a wide range of innovative products up close.
