Nikon SLM Solutions, a pioneer in metal additive manufacturing, announced that it has enhanced its partnership with Howco Metals Management LLC and made strategic advancements in AM for aerospace. Howco’s recent purchase of two more SLM®280 PS equipment and its exclusive initiative to create and implement superior process parameters for C103 alloy specifically designed for aerospace applications are indicative of this enhanced collaboration.

For a period of three years, Howco will be the only company able to use C103 on Nikon SLM®280 and SLM®500 systems for non-defence applications.

AM for Aerospace

Howco has been able to dramatically upgrade its production capacity thanks to this strategic development, and it currently has four state-of-the-art Nikon SLM® machines. This project not only increases Howco’s manufacturing capacity but also broadens its range of materials offerings. C103, a high-performance alloy that is known for its durability at high temperatures, is specifically aimed at the demanding aerospace sector.

“Partnering with Nikon SLM Solutions has equipped us with unparalleled technological support, enabling us to expand into new markets beyond our traditional scope. These advanced SLM®280 PS systems empower us to enhance our operational efficiency and cater to the intricate needs of the aerospace industry.”

– Conrad Kao, Director of Additive Manufacturing, Howco

By maximising C103’s special qualities for use in rocket nozzles and other high-temperature applications, the partnership aims to keep Howco at the forefront of innovation in the aerospace industry and beyond.

As we continue to push the limits of additive manufacturing, this relationship is essential, according to Nikon SLM Solutions’ regional sales manager, Antony Browy. The exclusive creation of C103 process parameters establishes a new standard for the industry and guarantees that Howco fulfils and surpasses the exacting performance and quality requirements set by the aerospace industry.”

About Howco: Howco serves the oil, gas, chemical, and energy industries as a worldwide distributor and processor of high-performance alloys and components with top-notch machining capabilities. Integrated services, additive manufacturing, and CNC machining and manufacturing are all included in its extensive offering of manufacturing solutions.
