Renishaw, a global engineering technologies company, has launched five new materials for RenAM 500 series of metal 3D Printers in order to promote additive manufacturing (AM) adoption in a variety of industries. The new materials include commercially Pure copper, AlSi7Mg aluminium alloy, H13 tool steel, Hastelloy® X alloy, and Super-Duplex stainless steel.
These specialised materials enable manufacturers to design new parts for a variety of applications.
Five New Materials for RenAM 500 Series
Renishaw is releasing five material files for its laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) systems to meet its customers’ ever-changing needs. The AM system manufacturer collaborated directly with customers to develop process parameters for new alloys, allowing for novel applications.
Renishaw has also added new powder layer thicknesses to its existing processable materials. These include 90 μm titanium grade 23, 70 μm stainless steel 316L, and 120 μm Inconel 718 parameters, which achieve exceptional material build rates.
For the first time, Plastometrex’s proprietary PIP (Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry) testing results are included on the material data sheets. This method, which complements Renishaw’s existing testing procedures, allows for rapid, direct testing on different sections of AM parts, providing a more precise and efficient evaluation of a part’s mechanical properties.
“We are pleased to be adding to our portfolio of available materials to support innovative applications, and respond to the needs of our customers. For instance, we have developed parameters for H13 tool steel, Hastelloy X alloy and super-duplex stainless steel to support customers in Spain and Portugal — SIMOLDES, ITP Aero and ADDIMEN — for applications in the tooling, aerospace and energy industries.”
– Marc Gardon, EMEA Additive Manufacturing Applications Manager at Renishaw
The new material range enables Renishaw’s RenAM 500 series users to explore a wide range of exciting new AM applications.
- Pure Copper, with its extremely high thermal and electrical conductivity, makes it ideal for consumer electronics and heat exchanger components.
- Aluminium AlSi7Mg is a lightweight, high-strength alloy with numerous unique applications in the aerospace and automotive industries.
- H13 tool Steel has excellent thermal fatigue properties and high heat resistance, resulting in exceptional high-temperature performance.
- Hastelloy X Alloy and Super-Duplex Stainless Steel have excellent corrosion resistance and high strength, making them ideal for the oil and gas and chemical process industries.
All of the new materials are compatible with Renishaw’s RenAM 500 Series systems.
