Key Takeaways
  • SprintRay acquired EnvisionTEC’s dental portfolio from Desktop Health, including over 200 patents spanning 3D printing hardware and materials developed over 20+ years
  • The acquisition brings patented cDLM technology in Envision One platform and Einstein DLP printer line, plus FDA-cleared Flexcera hybrid nanoceramic resin for dental prosthetics
  • SprintRay committed to continued customer support, reliable resin supply, and cross-platform validation to ensure seamless transition for existing EnvisionTEC customers
  • The strategic move strengthens SprintRay’s position in dental laboratories whilst maintaining focus on chairside applications for individual practices

SprintRay acquires EnvisionTEC in a strategic move announced on 2nd September 2025, marking a significant expansion of the Los Angeles-based company’s dental 3D printing capabilities. The global leader in dental 3D printing has acquired the EnvisionTEC/ETEC portfolio from Desktop Health, encompassing patents, trademarks, inventory, and intellectual property related to dental materials and 3D printing technologies. This acquisition represents SprintRay’s continued dedication to transforming dental practices through accessible and reliable 3D printing solutions.

The transaction brings together two pioneering forces in dental 3D printing, combining SprintRay’s market leadership with EnvisionTEC’s established technologies and customer base. EnvisionTEC, recognised as one of the early pioneers in dental 3D printing with over 20 years of experience, has developed more than 200 patents spanning hardware and materials whilst building a substantial global presence amongst dental laboratories and practices worldwide.

The SprintRay acquisition of EnvisionTEC encompasses several key technologies that will enhance the combined company’s market position. EnvisionTEC’s portfolio includes the patented continuous digital light manufacturing (cDLM) technology featured in the Envision One platform, representing a significant advancement in 3D printing precision and speed. The acquisition also brings the Einstein DLP printer line, originally developed under the Desktop Health brand, expanding SprintRay’s hardware offerings across different market segments.

Central to this acquisition is the integration of EnvisionTEC’s materials expertise, particularly the Flexcera hybrid nanoceramic resin. This FDA 510(k) Class II cleared, CE Marked, and MDR Class I certified material is specifically designed for 3D printing dental prosthetics, offering dental professionals regulatory-compliant solutions for patient care. The material’s certifications demonstrate EnvisionTEC’s commitment to meeting stringent healthcare standards, a quality that aligns with SprintRay’s own regulatory focus.

Comprehensive Support Strategy for Existing Customers

Following the acquisition, SprintRay has outlined a comprehensive strategy to support existing EnvisionTEC and Desktop Health customers whilst expanding market reach. The company has committed to providing dedicated customer support to ensure practices can continue operations without disruption during the transition period. This approach reflects SprintRay’s understanding of the critical nature of dental 3D printing equipment in daily practice workflows.

SprintRay plans to continue production of established EnvisionTEC and Desktop Health resins, including the popular Flexcera material, ensuring uninterrupted supply chains for existing users. The company will also pursue cross-platform validation initiatives, evaluating the compatibility of EnvisionTEC resins on SprintRay platforms and vice versa. This cross-compatibility approach could provide customers with greater material choices and workflow flexibility across different printer systems.

Dr Amir Mansouri, SprintRay Co-founder and CEO, emphasised the strategic importance of this acquisition in strengthening the company’s position within dental laboratories. “SprintRay’s acquisition of EnvisionTEC’s dental portfolio ensures existing customers continue to have the tools and support they rely on, while also strengthening our position in dental labs,” said Mansouri. “Our mission to transform dentistry through accessible, reliable 3D printing technology hasn’t wavered. This strategic move reinforces that commitment.”

The acquisition positions SprintRay to drive innovation and establish new standards in dental laboratory 3D printing through its expanded portfolio of lab-focused technologies and materials. This enhanced capability addresses the growing demand for high-volume, precision manufacturing solutions in dental laboratories whilst maintaining the company’s commitment to chairside applications for individual practices.
