Key Takeaways

Nano Dimension, the Israeli 3D printing Startup, has announced the debut of their Exa 250vx Digital Light Processing (DLP) for micro 3D printing applications. The high-speed Exa, designed to enable the manufacture of superior resolution micro components at high production throughput, was unveiled for the first time globally at Formnext in Frankfurt.

The Exa 250vx was designed with input from customers of Nano Dimension’s established Fabrica Tera and Fabrica Giga systems, and it is engineered to enable industry-leading productivity for incredibly precise micro components.

Exa 250vx DLP 3D Printer

The Exa250vx, which uses resin-based DLP technology to create exact layer heights and outstanding surface qualities, has been designed to fulfil the needs of manufacturers from a variety of vertical sectors and applications. These include connections and other miniaturised components for electronic devices; medical equipment such as micro needles, micro filters, and components for minimally invasive procedures; as well as optical applications and micro-decorative goods — including gold-coated — for the jewellery industry.

According to the business, the Exa 250vx Micro 3D printer is designed to meet the needs of both service bureaus and OEMs. It is a dependable and cost-effective alternative to traditional micro-manufacturing technologies such as micro-injection moulding and micro-CNC.

Exa’s compatibility with Nano Dimension’s resins for high resolution micro components, beginning with D-810, ensures further benefits. This allows for the fabrication of long-lasting, rigid parts with excellent structural integrity, which are ideal for producing delicate and precise components in the aforementioned application areas. As with all Fabrica systems, there is an open system philosophy that allows users to work with third-party resins.

“Manufacturers producing micro parts are facing a trade-off between precision and productivity. As part of Exa’s development, we worked closely with customers to address a host of needs such as high-volume parts production with micro level detail for parts larger than the 50 mm build limit we currently have on the Tera. The result is a system that provides the perfect balance of quality, productivity and cost, making it a game changer for the industry.”

– Nir Sade, Senior Vice President of Additive Manufacturing at Nano Dimension

The Exa 3D printer boasts a larger build volume of 100 mm x 100 mm x 70 mm, 7.6 µm XY resolution, and layer thickness of 10 microns, making it ideal for rapid production and high resolution. Manufacturers can produce specific micro parts to meet their engineering needs. The Exa is now available for pre-order and will ship in the second quarter of 2025.
